REPORT:
FAOPS NEONATAL SYMPOSIUM CHILDRENS HOSPITAL-HO CHI MINH
CITY, VIETNAM
The Neonatal Symposium co-organised
by 1 Children's hospital , Ho Chi Minh city,
Vietnam and FAOPS went on as scheduled on Friday the
14th of May. The final
program is attached herewith. Myself
and Dr Nandini Nagar another neonatologist
from Bangalore , along with the local Neonatology chief
were the faculty.
In the inuagural
ceremony,I took the opportunity to explain to them
about the FAOPS and invited them to become members
of the organisation.
The symposium was
attended by about 70 delegates from Ho Chi Minh city
and neighbouring province. Most of them understood
English , but for the benefit of some from the provinces
there was official interpretation. We had the opportunity
of taking a tour of the children's hospital, which
is 1000 bedded with all Pediatric subspecialities.
The 50 bedded NICU and 60 bedded PICU were impressive.
They have advanced Neonatal work going on there and
will be starting Nitric oxide in a few months time!!
We also visited the Maternal and child health hospital
which has a delivery rate of 60000 per year and has
an NICU which is 80 bedded and always full!!
As
such, Vietnam does not have Perinatal or Neonatal Association.
This Symposium was an eye opener to them. They have
decided to start a Perinatal association in the coming
months and I hope that they will become official
members of FAOPS at the NewDelhi Congress.
The key persons
are:
- Dr Cam Ngoc Phuong
, senior consultant and Head of Neonatology, who
will be initiating the Perinatal group in Vietnam.
- camphoung65@yahoo.com
- Dr tuan anh le
-tuanimci@yahoo.com who is the Vice head of outreach
and International affairs of the Institute. He
was instrumental in arranging the Symposium.
- Dr
Tang Chi Thoung, Director of the Children,s hospital.
